Sophia, Garrett and I first met in the fall during their search for a wedding photographer, and during the inquiry call there was an instant, sparks flying connection. Sophia had a fully realized vision of her non-traditional wedding day, with all the orange, pinks, and whites of a retro 70s disco (imagine a go-go dancer and you’ve got it!). I am SO excited for you guys to see these images and be inspired to have your own groovy wedding day!
Starting with the details and invitation suite, Sophia and Garrett had tons of cute trinkets that made the flat lay visually interesting and deeply personal. The invitation suite was designed by one of Sophia’s friends, and you can immediately see the vibrant vision of their day. A mix of vintage and modern, Sophia and Garrett wore classic Rolex watches while Sophia donned embroidered, white Converse. We also included their signature cocktails – an espresso martini and old fashioned – with cocktail napkins featuring their dog Ruby.
One super special thing Sophia did with her bridesmaids was an individual reveal – a really, really nice touch that bridesmaids love too! Typically I line your bridesmaids up in a row and then they turn around to see you (the bride!) for the first time; however, we kept Sophia in the getting ready suite and brought each of the bridesmaids in by themselves. It was so very sweet, because a lot of times your bridesmaids know you individually and not as a group. This way, each girl got to carve out an intimate moment with Sophia.
Sophia and Garrett’s wedding party pictures were so much fun. We found a spot at their venue, The Venue at the Bluffs – located in Trenton, Georgia right outside of Chattanooga – with fantastic lighting. I encouraged both groups to interact as naturally as possible to get some fun candid shots outside of the traditional posed pictures.
Before we knew it, it was time for the ceremony. The Venue at the Bluffs is a stunning wedding venue featuring an old warehouse for receptions and a large greenhouse for ceremonies, both overlooking the gorgeous mountain valley. This wedding had one of the most INCREDIBLE bridal entrances I’ve ever seen, with all eyes focused on Sophia. As she walked down the aisle with her mother and father, she broke out into an impromptu song to Garrett, singing her way up the aisle. It led to a MASSIVE smile on Garrett’s face, made everyone in attendance crack up, and really set the tone for the rest of the day; it was going to be an amazing, amazing wedding.
Sophia and Garrett read their own vows – we all cried, a lot – and they were so excited to just finally be married to each other. The newlyweds danced their way back down the aisle in true Sophia and Garrett fashion.
When we talked about the feeling she wanted to have with her bride and groom portraits, Sophia said she desired them to be “serious, candid, and whimsical.” We spent time letting Sophia and Garrett be completely themselves: running around, playing tag, dancing, and basking in the joy of being married.
The reception was highlighted with a groovy twist, and the couple danced the night away to all kinds of booty-shaking music; everyone was out on the dance floor that evening! One of my favorite send-off shots happened with Sophia and Garrett’s exit, featuring Sophia skipping down the line in her sparkling jumpsuit surrounded by bubbles. It was such an incredible wedding day – cheers to Sophia and Garrett!!!
